Meet Ms. Alumni 2012-13 Danielle Smith Jones '00

Portsmouth, VA. native Danielle Smith Jones graduated from Norfolk State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education.  She continued her education at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and earned a Master of Science in Public Health. 

Smith Jones has a strong passion for youth.  She currently is employed by Virginia Tech University College of Life Science and Agriculture with Virginia Cooperative Extension as the Unit Coordinator and 4-H Extension Agent for the City of Suffolk Unit Office.  An advocate for the importance of all youth and young adults having an opportunity to advance, Smith Jones volunteers her time mentoring, tutoring and motivating  young people. 

She is an active member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Portsmouth, where she serves in several ministries.  Her community involvement includes serving as the recording secretary for the NSUAA Portsmouth Alumni Chapter, a member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Inc., the Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Diaster Relief Task Force Leadership Committee for the South Atlantic Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the EVMS Health Professions Alumni Association and the Virginia Public Health Association. 

Smith Jones resides in Portsmouth with her loving husband Anthony Jones.  She believes that "it takes a villiage to raise a child," and she is thankful and grateful for the villiage that helped her get to where she is in life today.
